The volume of mangoes shipped to the US rose by 24 per cent during the last week of March, according to the latest crop report from the US-based National Mango Board.

Arrivals reached approximately 2.32m cartons, NMB said, on the back of increases from Peru, Mexico and Guatemala and despite a fall in sendings from Costa Rica.

Peru sent approximately33,744 cartons, representing 52 per centmore than the previous week.

Projections for arrivals from Mexico during last week and this week are 1.4m cartons and2.03m cartons respectively.

During the last week of March Guatemala sent roughly 569,135 cartons of mangoes to the US, marking a 72 per cent increase on the previous week.

Projections for last week and this week are546,480 and 617,000 cartons respectively.

Conversely, mango arrivals from Costa Rica fell 52 per cent to 47,520 cartons during the last week of March.

The Costa Rican mango season has now ended, NMB said, with in the region of 457,700 cartons shipped in total.
