Jupiter Group has revealed that it has broken its own personal best, beating its previous orange-packing record on the company’s farms in South Africa.

As part of its mission to be “the most transparent brand in fresh produce”, the company was happy to share the statistics behind its record packing week during the current Olympics, with nearly 12m oranges processed from the company’s own production in Limpopo.

According to the company, that “equates to 739km of oranges when placed side by side or 184,500 African elephants from tail to trunk”.

“Jupiter fruit is handpicked at the optimum time to preserve quality and taste, with their pickers selecting the ideal sweetness and colouration from the 494ha of oranges found in their farms,” the company stated.

“Once carefully removed from the tree, their citrus then makes the short journey from their orchards to their world-class packing facility,” Jupiter explained. “Streamlining efficiencies on farm, Jupiter’s market-leading packhouse benefits from a Greefa packing andwet-linethat allows them to packin excess of50 tonnesof citrusper hour.”

Technical director Cristian Metzger commented: “We’re proud to break all previous packing records on farm for oranges and look forward to continuing to share our fantastic South African grown fruit as the season progresses. We’re also really pleased to share thestatistics around our achievementand showcase our continued efforts to be the most transparent brand in fresh produce.”
