Murcia celery

The upcoming Autumn production season in Spain’s Murcia region is likely to feature “very high” quality and good commercial results, thanks in the main to favourable weather conditions over recent months.

According to Alfonso Gálvez Caravaca from region association Asaja Murcia, the lack of there being “any adverse weather worthy of mention, aside from some hailstones” has led to expectations of “magnificent” quality for the majority of crops.

Although there is expected to be a “significant reduction” in volumes of key products, among them tomatoes, lettuce, artichokes, broccoli and cauliflower, this season, growers are confident they will have sufficient production to meet demand.

Gálvez said the lower production volumes should ensure there is no oversupply from Spain during the season, while he believes it will also help growers to achieve better prices.
