Total avocado volume in the US market is on track to exceed 3bn lbs in 2025 according to the Hass Avocado Board (HAB). It said the historic milestone that underscores the fruit’s growing popularity and the strength of the avocado industry’s supply chain.

“This is a landmark moment for the avocado industry,” said Emiliano Escobedo, the HAB’s executive director. “Surpassing 3bn lbs is not just a number – it’s a testament to the tireless efforts of producers, importers, and marketers who have worked together to meet the growing demand for avocados in the US market.”

The projected volume represents a 4 per cent increase from the previous year and reflects sustained consumer interest in avocados as a versatile, nutrient-dense food. According to the HAB, it also highlights the success of industry-wide initiatives to promote year-round availability, enhance quality, and educate consumers on the benefits of avocados.

“There has been tremendous amounts of hard work and collaboration across the industry to transform avocados from being a misunderstood specialty fruit to today’s produce aisle powerhouse,” the board said, highlighting the sector’s transformation since its creation in 2002.

“Avocados have become a staple in American households, and this milestone reflects how deeply they’re woven into our food culture,” Escobedo continued. “As we look ahead, HAB remains committed to supporting the industry through data-driven insights, strategic marketing, and collaborative innovation.”

HAB, which represents domestic producers and importers, said it would continue to invest in research, nutrition education, and promotional programs that drive category growth and support a resilient, sustainable avocado supply chain.

HAB collects and distributes investments to maintain and expand demand for avocados in the US. It provides the industry with consolidated supply and market data, conducts nutrition research, educates health professionals, and brings people together from all corners of the industry to collectively work towards growth that benefits everyone.

The organisation also collects and reallocates funds to California and importer associations to benefit specific countries of origin in promoting their avocado brands to customers and consumers across the US.
