Support from discounter comes in response to dry weather and is intended to help smaller suppliers manage cash flow challenges
Aldi has announced it is offering quicker payments for small produce farmers and suppliers as part of its commitment to supporting British businesses.
The move follows a period of dry weather across the UK that has placed additional strain on growers. With a hotter-than-normal summer forecast, the measure is intended to help smaller suppliers manage cash flow challenges.
Under the new initiative, all fresh produce suppliers with a turnover under £5 million will be offered new, quicker payment terms for the remainder of 2025.
The changes take effect immediately and form part of Aldi’s broader commitment to long-term, fair relationships with British growers. Eligible suppliers have been invited to apply for the scheme.
Julie Ashfield, chief commercial officer at Aldi UK, said: “We know smaller growers are under real pressure – from a dry spring to rising input costs – and we want to do what we can to help. These shorter payment terms are a small, practical step to give them quicker access to cash and a bit more flexibility as the season progresses.”
Aldi also recently pledged to maintain its food safety and animal welfare standards even if current regulations are relaxed under future international trade deals.
