Strawberries dipped in Tajin spice and blackberries served with goat’s cheese were part of a special tasting experience served up at the berry supplier’s stand in Berlin

Berry marketer Driscoll’s is encouraging consumers to choose berries at more savoury meal occasions by showcasing unusual flavour pairings.

At its stand at Fruit Logistica last week, the company’s so-called ‘Berryista’ (a play on barista), Jana Lehman, ran a pop-up berry pairing and tasting experience, based on different moments in the day.

As a savoury breakfast option, which can help reduce blood sugar spikes, she presented a bagel with cream cheese, pickled ginger and blueberry.

Strawberries dipped in water and then rolled in the savoury Tajin spice, currently popular on TikTok, created a mouth-tingling snack alternative, while blackberries served on a cocktail stick with a wedge of goat’s cheese were an example of a berry-focused canape.

“We are inspiring people to eat berries at different times of the day,” said Lehman.

Flavour pairings are a key part of Driscoll’s messaging this year, according to marketing manager Isla Hallam, as part of its work looking at how and when consumers choose to eat berries.
