The launch in 200 M&S Food stores comes after a successful rollout in the retailer’s Food Halls and aims to remove consumer annoyance with lemon pips
Premium retailer M&S has launched seedless lemons across 200 stores after a successful rollout at its larger Food Halls.
The South-African grown citrus has been selectively bred to produce fruits with no pips, a source of annoyance to some consumers.
Writing on LinkedIn, M&S buyer Ghenadie Coroi said: “This launch is more than just a clever citrus twist – it’s the result of loads of hard work from some brilliant growers, suppliers and M&S colleagues.”
In a statement, the retailer said it had followed customer feedback before working with growers and suppliers to bring the naturally seedless variety to market eight years ago.
“This week M&S Food has launched brand-new M&S Collection seedless lemons in over 200 stores – perfect for cooking, cocktails or that citrus squeeze over summer salads,” it said.
It follows a launch by Tesco of seedless variety Eureka into UK stores in 2021.
