Supplier collaborates with partners to develop sustainable solution for best-selling ready-to-eat twin-packs

Birmingham-based supplier Minor, Weir & Willis says it can now offer retailers “measurable environmental benefits” combined with premium shelf presentation following the launch of a new packaging format.
The company worked with Ravenwood Packaging, Reflex Labels, and Produce Packaging to create a new production line for what it calls a “linerless” version of its ready-to-eat avocado twin-packs, which it says are its best-selling avocado product.
The new packs feature linerless lids paired with fully recyclable trays.
According to the group, the custom tray design cuts out the need for plastic, while ensuring avocados remain fresh and visible for strong retail displays.
At the heart of the solution is the Ravenwood Nobac 5000 applicator, a high-speed automated system that can apparently apply linerless fruit lids at more than 50 packs per minute.
As such, the technology eliminates the need for traditional backing paper and therefore significantly reduces material waste, while streamlining both production and recycling processes.
