Tesco has expanded its kiwifruit offer with the addition of new, Zespri-branded lines – including what is believed to be the first Hayward green kiwifruit to be sold in branded packs by a British high street retailer.

In a post on LinkedIn, Zespri’s market manager for the UK and Ireland, Susan Barrow-Dodd, said the supplier had added a Zespri Green four-pack, something she described as “a significant milestone”.

The launch further strengthens Tesco’s commitment to the kiwifruit category, she added.

“Even more exciting, the product will debut in two of the largest green kiwifruit depots – Dagenham and Peterborough – marking a significant step forward in building the category with our partners.”

According to Barrow-Dodd, Zespri’s SunGold four-packs have emerged as a “standout performer” and highest-selling line in the past couple of years.

In the meantime, she said, loose Zespri Jumbo SunGold continue to break records since launch, while its Organic SunGold has steadily established itself in the market since its introduction last September.

“Together with Tesco and DPS, this Kiwi momentum is translating into strong category growth, with Golden kiwifruit market share reaching 28.5 per cent in the 52 weeks to 17 May,” she noted.

“This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through true partnership – unlocking shopper demand, growing the category, and continuing to innovate the offer.

“We’re looking forward to continuing to build on this momentum and further developing the kiwifruit category in the UK with Tesco and our other partners.”
