A farm tenancy for a specialist green veg and potato grower with environmental ambitions has become available under The Crown Estate
A specialist green veg and potato grower is being invited to apply for a new farm business tenancy in Lincolnshire under a new offering from The Crown Estate.
The estate is looking for three new long-term and environmentally-focused farm business tenants on land in East Anglia, as part of its biodiversity and regenerative farming strategy.
Trevethoe House Farm, in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, is described as ideal for specialist green vegetable and potato production. It includes 358 acres of grade one soils plus 4,000t of box potato cold storage.
The successful tenants will take on a unique, 15-year environmental farm business tenancy (eFBT) which has been developed by The Crown Estate alongside the Tenant Farmers Association.
The other two farms include almost 500 acres and a 1,000t grain store at Abbey Garth farm, which also includes a seven-bed farmhouse and a range of outbuildings that may be suitable for diversification. Soils are mainly grade three quality, with some grade two on the eastern side of the farm. A tenancy is also on offer for Boatmere Farm at Gedney Marsh, with 81 acres of grade one land.
Managing director for Windsor and Rural at The Crown Estate, Paul Sedgwick, said the agreements are based on traditional tenancy, but with some specific estate-by-estate environmental objectives.
“The agreements are designed to protect and enhance The Crown Estate’s rural assets, but were also created with the farmers in mind in a bid to help them adapt to changing supply chain demands thrive and to help safeguard their livelihoods for future generations.
“We have many success stories from our existing tenants who we are working with to adopt these principles around biodiversity and regenerative farming. Uptake has been really positive, and our tenants have the confidence of a 15-year agreement which shows commitment from both sides.”
Tenders are being invited for all three farms and must be submitted by 6 June. Tenancies would begin in October of this year.
The farm tenders are being managed by consultancy firm Carter Jonas, which can provide more information to interested applicants.
