Blueberries

Blueberry growers from across the globe visited Fresno in California, US, recently to take part in the second annual meeting of the International Blueberry Organisation, which attracted industry representatives from most of the world's producing areas and from prospective growing areas.

At the meeting, the organisation elected several new officers including chairman Andres Armstrong, president Verne Gingerich, treasurer Peter McPherson and secretary Stephen Taylor, all for one year.

'We are delighted with the growing attendance and the opportunity this meeting provides to exchange information regarding in-country market promotion successes, health research findings, new varietal development/cultivation techniques and many other topics of mutual interest,' said Mark Villata, executive director of the North American Blueberry Council.

'We have entered a global marketing environment and it is important for all stakeholders to share challenges and successes during this annual gathering,' Villata added.
