Pakistan is losing millions of dollars worth of potential export revenue from its dates due to scarce processing and packing facilities, reports dailytimes.com.pk.

Exporters claim, as a result, the quality of their produce cannot compete with the dates from other sources on international markets.

Pakistan's date exports are currently valued at around US$29m, but could bring in as much as US$300m if infrastructure were improved, the report said.

The country's date growers are calling on Pakistan's chamber of commerce for help.

Pakistan produces 10 per cent of global date yield and ranks as one of the world's top suppliers after Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran and the UAE, the report said.
