Cool Logistics Asia – the specialist business conference for the international perishable logistics and transport sectors – will for the first time include fresh produce packaging in its programme at the Asia World-Expo in Hong Kong on 5-7 September 2018.

Packaging presentations will feature in Cool Logistics Asia’s walk-in seminars that will take place each morning in Hall Forum 2 during the Asia Fruit Logistica fresh produce trade show.

Willem Kokkeel of Innofresh will offer Cool Logistics Asia attendees a case study on packaging and logistics for today’s “multichannel supply reality”. Each product needs its own temperature environment depending on whether fruit is destined for retail, wholesale or e-commerce, he will say.

Kokkeel will be joined by Zhen Liu of Wageningen University, who will describe the complexity of delivering fresh products to different end-users, and will touch on home delivery and the challenges this will bring.

Spread across three days, Cool Logistics Asia 2018 will also cover themes such as the future of perishables shipped by sea and innovative forms of cold storage.

Opening the Cool Logistics Asia conference on 5 September, Graham Schrieder, head of fresh fruit and vegetables at container shipping giant Mærsk Line, will set out how he sees the future of maritime logistics.

Meanwhile, in his presentation, Ah Huat Goh – general manager, global marketing and service, reefer container department, Daikin Refrigeration – will tackle the thorny issue of perishable waste, and elaborate on the benefits of active controlled atmosphere solutions.

The lack of adequate cold storage in Asia, especially China, will also be in focus at the fourth Cool Logistics Asia this year. Alfred Cheung of China’s JC Food Republic will make the case for innovative perishable logistics platforms and growing investment in this region.

Cheung has studied the coldchain from an ocean carrier perspective having been head of reefers containers at OOCL for many years and experimenting ever since with reefer intermodality and packaging before launching his own cross border e-commerce venture.
