California’s largest stonefruit grower-packer-marketer, Fruit Patch Sales, has announced the appointment of Scott Wallace as president and CEO with effect from today (13 July 2009).

Mr Wallace joins Fruit Patch from his previous position as president of global operations for SVP Worldwide Corporation, a consumer products manufacturer owned by KKR, and he brings with him an impressive record of executive roles, many of them with major food corporations.

“Scott Wallace has led the transformation of several of the US’s best-known brands and has a well-established track record of building strong ties with growers and retailers alike,” said Wil Garland, chairman of the board of Fruit Patch Sales. “The board is confident Scott will add value for all Fruit Patch key stakeholders including employees, growers and retailers.”

When it comes to horticulture, Mr Wallace spent a significant period as president and CEO of Mauna Loa Nut Corporation from 1996 where he worked closely with growers and managed the world’s largest macadamia nut processing facility, according to a Fruit Patch company statement. He also presided over the brand’s expansion into almost every US retail grocery outlet as well as into a number of Asian countries.

After Mauna Loa Nut Corporation, Mr Wallace became president, chairman and CEO of the board of Gardenburger Corporation where he helped to transform the fortunes of the world’s first vegetable burger marketer.

Earlier in his career, Mr Wallace worked for Procter & Gamble, Eastman Kodak and Jacobs Suchard Confections in various sales and marketing positions. While at Jacobs Suchard he introduced the Brachs Candy brand into produce departments throughout the US.

Born and raised in Covina, California, Mr Wallace graduated in 1978 from San Francisco State University with a degree in marketing and international business.

Mr Wallace remains a member of the board of directors of the world’s largest macadamia nut grower – ML Macadamia Orchards of Hawaii – and he is set to relocate his family to the Dinuba area where Fruit Patch is based ahead of the new school year.
