Shipping giant Maersk Line has introduced an improved eastbound service from south Vietnam to the US west coast, with the aim of establishing an industry-best lead-time product, utilising a proven network that has 'consistently been rated as number one in schedule reliability'.

According to the Danish shipping group, the new Pacific Express Service will commence with the initial sailing from Ho Chi Minh City on 16 September.

The service offers customers a lead-time from origin to discharge of 17 days, enhancing efficiency of the supply chain. Integrated into the trans-Pacific service network, it offers a 'seamless and ultra-reliable connection' via Hong Kong to Maersk's TP6 service, the group said.

'Vietnam is a fast-developing market with significant growth as a sourcing location,' said Peter Smidt Nielsen, general director of Maersk Line Vietnam. 'We have analysed the deployment and terminal opportunities in Vietnam and have listened closely to our customers to provide a product that delivers best-in-class service and lead-time.

'We are very pleased to offer this improved service in this important market,' he added.
