Asiafruit’s October edition provides an in-depth breakdown of this year’s record Asia Fruit Logistica show, which saw some 16,000 attendees from 95 countries and regions meet in Hong Kong in September. The extensive coverage includes exclusive reports on many of the insightful panel discussions and presentations that took place on the show floor at the Asiafruit Knowledge Centre, the forums for Nuts and Dried Fruit and Frozen Fruit and Vegetables, and the new FreshTech stage where expert speakers highlighted the myriad of untapped opportunities for the sector, even as it faces ongoing challenges.
In our cover interview, Asiafruit editor John Hey speaks with Sam Sin, business development manager of Freco International, which won Importer of the Year at the Asia Fruit Awards. Sin shares how the Hong Kong-based family business has continued to evolve to meet its customers’ needs, building strong brand partnerships, focusing on marketing and diversifying across retail, wholesale, and food service.
Headlining our berry feature, Fruitnet’s North America editor Michael Barker reports on the Asiafruit Knowledge Centre category spotlight where Jae Chun, vice-president and general manager of Driscoll’s Asia-Pacific, Costa Group’s general manager of international horticulture George Jessett, and John Early, global sales director at Fruitist spoke about the substantial opportunities that still remain within the Asia market. While the price of blueberries in the market has lowered from its previous highs thanks to increased supply, Chun says this marks a new era for the category whereby more and more consumers will have access to the fruit.
Elsewhere in the issue, Asiafruit China’s Winnie Wang speaks with Riverking’s commodity director Sean Chen on the company’s moves to develop its supply chain and proprietary variety licensing to supply premium fresh produce across China. Fred Meintjes also reports on South Africa’s recent market access win that sees its cherries gain entry to China.
All of this, plus category features on avocados, mangoes, apples and more.
