New Zealand’s fruit exports were second only to dairy and travel in value terms during the first half of 2025, according to newly released government data.

Total overseas fruit sales for the six-month period totalled NZ$2.96bn, up 27 per cent on the year-earlier figure, and comprised 10.3 per cent of the country’s total export value.

Driving that trade were New Zealand’s fruit exports to China, which amounted to NZ$911mn during the period, up from NZ$543mn in the first half of 2024.

The other major trade destinations for the country’s fruit were the EU (NZ$603mn, up 18.5 per cent) and Japan (NZ$341mn, down 2.8 per cent).
