Brazilian fruit association Abrafrutas has launched the Frutas do Brasil ESG Seal, a new certification programme recognising sustainable production practices aligned with the demands of the international market.

Speaking at the launch of the new label in Brasilia, Abrafrutas president Guilherme Coelho said it represents a milestone for national fruit farming, reinforcing the sector’s commitment to sustainability, transparency and productive responsibility.

The seal aims to highlight producers and companies that follow consistent standards of good environmental practices, social responsibility, and governance. The certification also aims to strengthen the image of Brazilian fruit abroad, increasing its competitiveness and meeting the growing demands of consumers and international markets for products with proven responsible origin.

Abrafrutas’ ESG director, Priscilla Nasrallah, opened the launch ceremony by highlighting the historic moment that Brazilian fruit farming is experiencing, marked by leadership, innovation, and responsibility.

She emphasized that the seal reinforces what the sector has been practicing for decades: care for the land, efficient use of natural resources, social inclusion, and ethical governance. Nasrallah congratulated Brazilian producers, highlighting that they care for the land as a living asset, that they invest in technology, climate monitoring, rational use of natural resources, social inclusion, and ethical work practices.

“Producers who understand that there is no future in agriculture without sustainability, and that there is no sustainability without people,” she said.

“The Frutas do Brasil ESG Seal represents exactly that: the consolidation of a trajectory built by thousands of producers who, every day, work with dedication to feed the world with the highest quality fruits, with responsibility and commitment to people and the planet.”

At the ceremony, the president of ApexBrasil, Jorge Viana, highlighted the significant growth in Brazilian fruit exports, which reached a record US$1.2bn last year.

“The world will recognize our potential. These three concepts – environmental, social, and governance – strengthen Brazil’s image abroad and promote our products when we have a seal like this placed on our fruits,” he said.
