Rubio will serve a four-year term at the helm of the lemon and grapefruit interprofessional
Joaquín Rubio Gomariz has been named as the new president of Spanish lemon and grapefruit interprofessional Ailimpo. He replaces outgoing president, José Hernández Hernández, who will continue as vice president of the association.
Rubio, who is also president of the El Limonar de Santomera cooperative, said he would take on the presidency with great enthusiasm and responsibility.
“I will represent the interprofessional association in a manner consistent with my convictions as a farmer and cooperative member. I will strive to contribute my influence to Ailimpo’s current line of work, to enrich the current project, of which I am a firm believer,” he said.
Rubio takes over as Ailimpo embarks on a new phase of its ongoing Strategic Plan, which is structured around two pillars – lobbying and communication – and four axes of work: sustainability, competitiveness, innovation, and promotion.
He sees the main challenges facing the sector as climate change, labour scarcity, the availability of water in adequate quantity, quality, and at an appropriate price, as well as ensuring the profitability of all links in the business.
“Ailimpo must be the link between the different links in the sector to ensure its joint profitability and the tool that unequivocally defends the interests of lemon and grapefruit professionals before the various administrations, while maintaining independence and professionalism as they have until now,” he said.
