Frutas de Chile has identified Morocco as a key strategic market and gateway to other African countries

Cherries and kiwifruit are among the products featured in the first business matchmaking event organised by ProChile in North Africa, which takes place in Rabat, Morocco this week.
A group of 16 Chilean companies will have the opportunity to meet with 30 importers from 13 countries, including Morocco, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
According to ProChile’s director general, Ignacio Fernández, demand for Chilean food products in Africa has more than doubled in the last five years, reaching US$450mn in 2025 – and he said there is still plenty of room for growth in the market.
Chile is seeking to strengthen its trade ties with Morocco and has begun bilateral talks with the aim of securing a future free trade agreement. It sees the north African country as a key strategic market and wider gateway to the region.
Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, commented: “Chile’s commercial history has been built on being pioneers worldwide, and today we want to lead a new milestone by being the first to open African markets for fresh fruit exports.
“We have identified Morocco as an ideal platform to begin with: a country with high fruit consumption, a significant population, and a booming tourism sector, making it the perfect strategic starting point to begin this new growth path for Chilean fruit. We are eager to participate in this public-private tour to Morocco, where we hope to hold discussions that will allow us to move forward”.
