Cameroon saw its banana exports rise by more than 20 per cent in March, compared with the same month of last year, according to figures released by Assobacam.

As reported by Business in Cameroon, that represents a sharp increase, from 19,585 tonnes in March 2025 to 23,977 tonnes.

The improvement appears to be mainly down to Compagnie Fruitière subsidiary Plantations du Haut Penja, which reportedly shipped 17,850 tonnes during that period, up 29.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, state-owned Cameroon Development Corporation exported 3,552 tonnes, down from 3,822 tonnes in March 2026, the report said.

“This reflects ongoing difficulties in recovering from the impact of separatist unrest in Cameroon’s north-west and south-west regions since late 2016,” the website noted.

The company suspended its operations in September 2018 and only resumed June 2020, but its recovery has apparently been a slow one.
