The Motor de Cano farm in Xeresa, Valencia hosted an Open Day to present the Earlyna (US Early Pride) mandarin organised by Euro Varieties Agronomic Management (Evam) and the Club of Protected Plant Varieties (CVVP).

US Early Pride, sold commercially in Europe as Earlyna, is characterised by its flattened shape and its very early ripening, making it an ideal early mandarin for the leafy fruit segment. It has few or no seeds and an attractive intense reddish-orange colour, and is typically harvested between around 20 October and the end of December.

According to its developers, the variety stands out for its resistance to diseases such as Alternaria and for its ability to remain on the tree for up to 45 days after ripening without losing quality, which significantly extends its market window.

The event featured presentations by Evam’s Vicente Estevan, Cipriano, and Fernando Castelló, who highlighted the main agronomic, commercial, and organoleptic characteristics of Earlyna and its strong productive and commercial potential in European markets.

“Earlyna is here to fill a gap in the market: a mandarin with few or no seeds and an attractive colour during the peak early season, when consumers demand it most,” said Estevan.

According to Evam and CVVP, this latest offering reaffirms their commitment to varietal innovation, sustainability, and the growth of the Spanish citrus sector.

“We are only at the beginning of a project with great potential, and the interest shown by the producers encourages us to continue working towards a more modern, profitable and environmentally friendly citrus industry,” Estevan said.
