Company marks occasion with spotlight on Del Monte Zero, the “first-ever carbon-neutral pineapple”

Fresh Del Monte is celebrating International Pineapple Day on 27 June with Del Monte Zero, which it describes as the “first-ever carbon neutral pineapple”. The company says the product – first launched in 2022 – has been developed to fully offset its carbon footprint from farm to shelf.

“While the average pineapple emits 0.16 kg of CO₂e per kg, Del Monte Zero is grown and produced with sustainable practices that completely neutralise that impact – making it one of the most climate-smart products in the produce aisle,” said the company.

The achievement is supported by Fresh Del Monte’s broader sustainability programme, which includes biodiversity protection, regenerative agriculture, and efforts to reduce waste and water use throughout the company’s operations, according to the firm.

“Together, these initiatives helped Fresh Del Monte reach its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets seven years ahead of schedule [in 2023],” it explained.

The spotlight on Del Monte Zero forms part of Fresh Del Monte’s broader celebrations for International Pineapple Day, which highlight the fruit’s development from a canned commodity to “pop-culture staple”.
