MSC has boosted its services for the Spanish citrus export season, offering weekly departures from the Port of Valencia to Canada and new intermodal connections with the main distribution centres in the North American country.

“A weekly service will depart from Valencia and the port of Sines in Portugal to the Canadian ports of Halifax and Montreal, ensuring the continuity of citrus exports from the Mediterranean under temperature-controlled conditions,” the shipping company said.

As a new addition, MSC has incorporated a rail service from Halifax to Toronto, with a transit time of just two days, to facilitate rapid access to one of Canada’s main logistics and consumer hubs and improve inland distribution of fruit arriving in refrigerated containers.

The company highlighted that the reefer containers used on these routes are monitored in real time through the MSC iReefer PRO solution, which allows cargo conditions to be tracked throughout the entire journey, from departure at the ports of origin to arrival at the Canadian destinations.

With this combination of maritime and rail services, MSC Spain said it offers tailored reefer solutions and flexible routes for exporters, leveraging its experience in citrus transport and competitive transit times.

The world’s leading shipping company typically has a keen eye for opportunity and puts its vessels at the service of fruit-producing countries during the peak season. It has also done so in the opposite direction on other occasions.
