Paine Schwartz Partners (PSP) completed a structured minority investment in AMFresh Group and its subsidiary, Bloom Fresh International. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The investment was made through Paine Schwartz Food Chain Fund VI and builds on more than eight years of collaboration between the companies.

AMFresh said it would reinforce its ability to execute its long-term Strategic Ambition Plan, described as “a roadmap to accelerate innovation, expand internationally and build a broader, more diversified business through disciplined organic growth, innovation-led expansion and selective strategic acquisitions”.

The investment supports the continued growth of both Bloom Fresh and AMFresh, whose vertically integrated platform spans plant genetics, breeding, farming and global commercialisation. By combining proprietary genetics with production and retail capabilities, AMFresh has built a business designed to accelerate the commercialisation of new fruit varieties while strengthening relationships with growers and retailers.

PSP first invested in SNFL through Food Chain Fund V in 2019, helping expand the company’s licensing platform and geographic reach in key agricultural markets. In 2023, the firm sold a portion of its investment to EQT, facilitating the merger of SNFL and IFG that established Bloom Fresh as a global fruit breeding platform. The new investment, along with additional co-investment opportunities for investors, will support the next phase of AMFresh’s growth.

Alvaro Muñoz, CEO of AMFresh Group, commented: “The agrifood industry is at an inflection point. Consumers, retailers and growers are demanding greater innovation, stronger sustainability and entirely new ways of creating value. Over the last decade, AMFresh has built a unique global platform spanning genetics and breeding, advanced farming systems, technology, supply chain capability and deep retail partnerships.

“We are now entering a new phase of growth, with a clear plan to scale that platform, accelerate innovation and invest in the capabilities and talent our industry will need over the next decade. Our ambition is to become an even stronger, more relevant and more capable partner for growers, retailers and consumers.

“Achieving that ambition requires long-term investment, exceptional people, disciplined execution and partners who share our long-term vision. PSP has been an exceptional partner over the last eight years, and their continued support gives us the confidence and capacity to deliver one of the most ambitious transformation plans in the global fresh food industry.”

Kevin Schwatz, CEO of PSP, said: “Having successfully invested in agricultural genetics for over 20 years, Paine Schwartz has long been anchored by the foundational thesis that genetics are the most critical agricultural inputs, with significant value capture potential. We believe Bloom is one of the highest-quality platforms in global agriculture and we are proud to continue deepening our relationship with Bloom and AMFresh.”
