German supermarket group Rewe has announced that it has ended its operation in Poland with the sale of its 25 Billa outlets to French retailer E.Leclerc.
Rewe's Polish network currently employs around 1,600 people across the country, and last year reported annual revenues of €100m, according to the Warsaw Business Journal.
' I am very happy that E.Leclerc has strengthened its position in Poland by making this purchase, and it will reach the relevant critical mass on the Polish market in order to compete effectively,' said Rewe head Alain Caparros.
The deal is pending approval by Poland's Competition and Consumer Protections Office. Leclerc currently operates 20 stores in the country.
