Trucks transported 12.6m tonnes of Spanish fruit and vegetables in 2025, maintaining the same 95 per cent share as the previous year

The majoirity of Spain’s fresh fruit and vegetables continues to be transported by truck, accounting for 95 per cent of the country’s total exports.

That is according to data from the department of Customs and Special Taxes in the Spanish Tax Agency, processed by Fepex.

Spanish fresh produce exports by road reached 12.6mn tonnes in 2025, out of the overall total of 13.2mn tonnes.

Maritime transport was the second most used, Fepex reported, coming in at 4.2 per cent of the total, while airfreight represented 0.08 per cent and rail freight 0.05 per cent.

Road transport has remained stable in recent years, also representing 95 per cent of total exports in 2024.

The second-most used mode of transport for Spanish fruit and vegetable exports, far behind trucks, was shipping, with 558,700 tonness in 2025.

After road and sea transport, airfreight was the most used method for exporting fruits and vegetables, with 10,731 tonnes exported last year.

Rail ranked fourth, at 7,280 tonnes, while some 2,422 tonnes were also exported via postal service.
