The San Carlos-based park will have a special focus on fruit and vegetable production and agro-industrial innovation

San Carlos Shandong binational industrial park

The municipality of San Carlos in Chile’s Ñuble region and China’s Shandong Province, China have signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with the goal of developing a binational industrial park that will promote commercial, technological, and cultural ties between the two territories.

The initiative seeks to transform San Carlos into a strategic platform for international business, with a special focus on fruit and vegetable production and agro-industrial innovation.

The agreement was signed by the mayor of San Carlos, Rubén Méndez Venegas; the president of the Shandong Province Trade and Investment Association, Zhang Xizhong; and the president of the San Carlos Somos Todos Corporation, Sergio Belmar.

“This milestone opens up new possibilities for our commune and our region. It can be not only commercial or industrial, but also cultural,” said Méndez. “I thank the San Carlos Somos Todos Corporation, the Chinese authorities who visited us, and all the political authorities who joined us at this important ceremony.”

Belmar described the project as “a great opportunity for San Carlos and Ñuble…that will allow us to position ourselves as a business hub, especially in the fruit and vegetable sector, where we already have a significant presence”.

The first exhibition of the Chile-China Bilateral Industrial Park is scheduled for September 2025 and will take place at the San Carlos Medialuna, the Cultural Centre, and Quirel Park.

Its strategic focuses will include business exhibitions, technological cooperation and innovation, logistics and cold chain development, photovoltaic solutions for agribusiness, business incubation, and attracting foreign investment.
