The UK has many great opportunities to sell greater volumes of food and drink, including fresh produce, to markets in the Middle East.

That was the verdict of UK Agriculture Minister Jim Paice, who was speaking at Gulfood in Dubai – one of the region's largest food and hospitality trade shows – as part of a mission to promote British fresh produce.

The visit, which was organised by the UK government as part of a wider drive to boost exports to high growth markets, saw Paice meet with ministers from the United Arab Emirates for talks aimed at developing trade between the UK and the UAE.

'From cheese to chocolate our foods are already known the world over for their quality,' Paice noted. 'Successful, vibrant places like the Middle East represent a fantastic opportunity for growth.

'I firmly believe food manufacturing can play a key role in Britain's economic recovery,' he added. 'That's why I'm backing British products abroad while ensuring business gets the right support at home.'
