Zeropack has appointed Michelangelo Buzzi as head of sales, tasking him with opening up new markets and expanding its range of biodegradable agricultural and packaging solutions.

The joint venture between Maip Group and Rivoira has begun supplying its IamNature PHA-based clips to Società Agricola Gandini, delivering 100,000 units for the upcoming tomato growing season.

IamNature is a portfolio of PHA-based formulations made from a natural polymer produced by bacteria through controlled fermentation. Designed to offer performance comparable to conventional plastics, the materials are biodegradable in soil at the end of the growing cycle.

Zeropack said the material – which hold TÜV Austria certifications for OK biobased, OK biodegradable Soil and OK Compost Industrial – is fully biodegradable. This means it breaks down even in direct contact with the soil, rather than solely through industrial composting, without releasing persistent microplastics into the environment.

The company is now developing packaging and netting solutions for berries, apples and citrus.

“Our objective is to develop solutions for both agriculture and packaging, ensuring that our added value is recognised from the field all the way to the end consumer – with the ultimate ambition of certifying the entire supply chain as ’plastic-free,’” Buzzi said.
