Major strawberry, top fruit and stone fruit producer Mansfields has appointed James Miller as managing director, effective from 18 May.

Miller joins the business from major independent berry producer WB Chambers, where he served as commercial director, bringing more than 20 years of experience across the fresh produce sector spanning fruit, salads and vegetables.

During his decade at WB Chambers, Miller led commercial operations across top fruit, stone fruit and berries, while developing a comprehensive 52-week import programme that delivered sustained business growth.

He also serves as a board member of British Berry Growers, the industry body dedicated to the growth and sustainability of the UK berry sector.

Miller said: “Mansfields has built an outstanding reputation for quality, service and operational excellence, and I’m excited to join the business as it enters its next phase of growth.

“The consolidation of the group’s fruit operations creates real scale and capability, allowing us to deliver a stronger, more integrated offer to customers across the UK and internationally.

“There is significant opportunity ahead to drive innovation, enhance customer service and further establish Mansfields as the leading fruit business in the market.”

Part of the Greosn group since October 2025, Mansfields is entering a phase of significant growth as part of a five-year strategic framework focused on targeted acquisitions, consolidation, key capital investment and deeper long-term partnerships designed to strengthen market leadership.

In fruit production specifically, the group plans to expand protected cropping and its international footprint to introduce earlier varieties, superior genetics and licensed varieties.

Investment in precision agronomy, robotics, AI, irrigation and renewable energy technologies will help reduce variability, extend growing seasons and support a reliable 52-week supply programme for retail partners.

Miller will play a central role in driving Mansfields’ next phase of growth as the business consolidates the Greosn group’s fruit operations.

The consolidation will bring together top fruit, soft fruit and stone fruit production across farms in Kent and Hampshire, alongside operations in Europe and South Africa, supported by substantial investment in storage, packhouses and farming infrastructure.

The business said it would continue integrating renewable energy and precision agriculture technologies to reinforce its environmental leadership.

As part of the transition, Lee Port, a founding member of Mansfields, has moved from the role of CEO into a group strategic development position.

Working directly with Greosn’s group CEO Matt Jarrett, Port will help lead expansion and development projects across the group, ensuring the infrastructure and operational capabilities are in place to support Mansfields’ ambitious growth plans.

Jarrett said: “We’re investing in the best people to secure the talent needed to continue to deliver market-leading performance. James’s sector knowledge and commercial leadership will accelerate Mansfields’ growth, while our coordinated investments in infrastructure, technology and sustainability will support that ambition.

“These investments create significant commercial, environmental and social opportunities, putting British fresh produce on a confident and competitive path.”
