In the latest episode of Fruitnet’s conversation series Fruitbox, Chris White speaks to Hein Deprez, founder and executive director of Greenyard, one of the world’s biggest fresh produce suppliers.

Deprez recently took the company he started more than 40 years ago back into private ownership, completing a full takeover and privatisation with the help of investor Solum Partners.

Now, as he prepares to help shape the next chapter in its history, he explains why it made sense for the group to leave the stock exchange and what this means for its customers and growers.

He also talks about the need to champion healthy eating – with fresh fruit and vegetables at its core – in order to fix a food system he describes as “broken”.

And he shares his views on the need for better institutional support for the fruit and vegetable business, especially when it comes to things like the regulation of packaging.

Fruitbox is essential listening for everyone in the fresh produce business. Every episode attracts a large global audience. Fruitbox is presented by Fruitnet’s Chris White. He has been reporting on the global fresh produce business for more than 35 years.
