Philippe Binard of the World Apple & Pear Association comments on the scale of the challenge for fresh apple and pear suppliers, who have to contend with tight margins, increasing costs, and the apathy of consumers who are bombarded with advertising for less healthy alternatives.
“Everyone knows an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Scientists can say it, the doctors can say it, media can say it. But for the sector to use that as a marketing element remains a challenge.”
Binard spoke exclusively to Fruitnet during the most recent edition of Prognosfruit, which brings together key players from all across the apple and pear business to share new forecast data and secure important trade connections as the new Northern Hemisphere season gets underway.
