Citrus supplier SiCar Farms has expanded its US import operations with the opening of a new distribution centre at Port Manatee, in sout-west Florida.

The 1,850m2 facility, which is due to begin operations in December, will make it easier for the group to deliver its products to markets across the US East Coast.

According to SiCar, it is equipped with eight truck docking entrances, an automated fruit selection system, advanced bagging systems, and automatic racking technology.

As a result, it said, the centre will boost its throughput and reduce handling times for its year-round supply of limes – as well as other citrus and tropical imports – while maintaining the highest product quality standards.

“This new facility is a key step in meeting the growing demand for premium fresh citrus on the East Coast,” said Luis Gudino, CEO of SiCar Farms. “By optimising delivery routes and integrating automation, we’re not only improving efficiency but also reducing our environmental footprint.”

The Port Manatee location should reduce transport distances as well as carbon emissions, and therefore support the group’s broader sustainability efforts.
