Pears

Europe ranks as the leading export market for Chilean pears so far this year, according to figures from Asoex and reported by Decofrut-SimFRUIT.

Sendings to the European market have risen by 5.66 per cent to reach 53,244 tonnes as of 19 June, Asoex data revealed.

Total exports have increased by 14.35 per cent to some 108,108 tonnes during the same period, the report said.

The second-largest market for Chilean pears this season is Latin America, which has absorbed 31,980 tonnes, an increase of 30.97 per cent on the same period last year.

The US East coast ranks as the third-largest export destination with 10,521 tonnes, or 18.04 per cent more than last year, according to Asoex.

This season’s export crop comprises mainly Packham S Triumph, Abate Fetel and Beurre Bosc.
