The Chilean port of Coquimbo is back in operation following last month’s earthquake and tsunami.
Raúl Ceballos, the port’s captain, told Diario El Día that one of the quays is now fully operational while the second is partly open.
One of the port’s berths reopened on Saturday while a second site, which sustained greater damage, is still being inspected and will remain closed for now.
“The fact that we have resumed operations so quickly is important as it means we can provide work for our members and satisfy the needs of our clients,” said Rodrigo Trucco, general manager of port operator TPC. “We owe this achievement to all of our collaborators who from the very first day put in the hard work to make it happen.”
The first vessel to call at the port since its reopening was the National Geographic Explorer cruise ship, which arrived on Saturday.
