Expert speakers from leading market research organisation The Nielsen Company will kick off this year’s Asiafruit Congress with first-rate analysis of the latest trends in consumer behaviour across Asia, as well as strategic advice on how to boost fresh produce sales in the region.

Peter Gale, Nielsen’s managing director of retailer services for the Asia-Pacific region, will review the economic performance of countries across Asia and present detailed analysis of how shoppers have been behaving in the wake of the more challenging economic conditions witnessed over the past year.

Meanwhile, Lisa Cork – Nielsen’s fresh produce specialist – will look at what these trends mean for the fruit and vegetable business, where Asian consumers are buying their fresh produce and how understanding their behaviour can help suppliers to boost sales.

“This potent combination of Nielsen expertise makes for a fitting opening to this year’s Asiafruit Congress,” said the editor of Asiafruit Magazine John Hey, who manages the conference programme. “The Congress brings together suppliers to Asia from all over the world with regional buyers and retail executives. Many of them are eager to know exactly how the recent economic conditions have been impacting on shopper behaviour in Asia and what this all means for fresh produce marketing.”

The opening Nielsen presentations will be followed by a panel discussion involving key buyers representing different Asian markets. The panel of speakers, which includes senior retail figures, will discuss the findings of the presentations and their own experiences of market and shopper trends over recent months.

The Asiafruit Congress takes place alongside ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA on 2- 4 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
