AiroCide Kes Crunch Pak

Crunch Pak has implemented the NASA-developed AiroCide PPT Food Safety air sanitation technology at its facility in Cashmere, Washington State, according to a press release from the technology’s manufacturer and distributor KES Science & Technology (KES), a leading global provider and innovator of postharvest preservation technology.

“Because airborne cross-contamination poses a potential threat to food safety, the chemical-free AiroCide system (which kills airborne mould, fungi, bacteria and viruses as well as removes volatile organic compounds (VOCs), like ethylene gas) provides added protection to enhance quality assurance programmes,” the company said.

Crunch Pak is an industry leader in fresh sliced apples. Located in Washington State, in the heart of apple country, the company is committed to providing the highest quality organic and conventional sliced apples in the market.

“The food safety and quality assurance programme at Crunch Pak has been built to continuously control any potential hazards from farm to table,” KES explained. “Every step is taken to ensure Crunch Pak products are the safest they can be, while maintaining consistent taste and texture.”

According to KES, the AiroCide technology, integrated with Photocatalytic Oxidation (PCO), works in unison to destroy harmful airborne microbes and dismantle volatile organic compounds (VOC), like ethylene gas.

“Clinical studies show a 99 per cent plus kill rate for microbials and removal of VOCs,” the company said. “The AiroCidetechnology is a FDA listed class II medical device that is also used the medical health care industry.”

AiroCide is also energy efficient, according to the manufacturers, given that it was originally designed for the NASA space station programme to conduct astroculture experiments that required air free of mould spores and ethylene gas.
