Leading logistics company DHL announced the opening of a new ocean freight terminal in Kochi this week, and has also launched a weekly direct ‘Less than Container Load' (LCL) service between Kochi and Europe, North America and other destinations.

The new service, operated by DHL's carrier Danmar Lines, will offer up to a three day reduction in transit times, Freight Net reported.

Kochi is a major port on India's west coast and is an important gateway for the country's trade.

"With the timely introduction of this new LCL service, we can offer opportunities to our customers to increase their footprint in global commerce as the world's economy picks up," said Amadou Diallo, DHL's South Asia Pacific CEO.

"This fixed direct LCL Consol service connecting Kochi to the rest of the world has further strengthened our ocean freight product to support customers especially in the spices, palm oil and coir business sectors," he said.
