Aeon Malaysia plans to open an average of two stores a year between now and 2010, according to a report on Planet Retail.

The group will focus on three main areas in Malaysia - Johor Baru, Klang Valley and Penang - as part of Aeon’s mid-term plan, it said.

In a recent interview, the president of Aeon’s Malaysian business, Nagahisa Oyama, said the group would leverage on its new outlets, customer loyalty and strong brand to sustain and grow the business.

“The economic slowdown and decline in consumer sentiment may affect our performance to a certain extent in the short term but we should still be able to see growth in the coming years,” he said.

AEON’s core businesses are retail and shopping complex management, which contributed 90 per cent and 10 per cent to revenue respectively based on last financial year’s figures, Planet Retail said.
