In the US, Sinclair Systems has announced that it is to introduce its new variable print system following four years of development and 'significant' investment in emerging laser technology.

Variable print is geared towards packer/shippers aiming to cut inventory costs by stocking fewer multiple label designs, Sinclair said, replacing them with an 'imprintable' version where variable data is printed onto the label during application.

'The truly unique advantage of lasering directly onto the label is that there is no consumable like a print cartridge or a ribbon, and the print is a clean, sharp image comprised of data the label operator inputs,' said group president and CEP Bill Hallier. 'This is the level of innovation and quality the industry has come to expect from Sinclair.'

The system prints DataBar codes, PLUs, lot numbers and brands onto loose fruit labels, as well as using bolt-on technology for use with Sinclair RM6 applicators.

'Pairing the laser models with our existing RM6 equipment means that our customers have virtually no downtime when they are converting from conventional Sinclair labelling equipment to our variable print system,' Mr Hallier added. 'Of course, this state-of-the-art system is supported by our global team of technical service experts.'

The group added that the true benefits of the system are the savings experienced in reducing multiple label inventories, and improved flexibility in the packhouse.
