US retail giant Walmart is putting its focus on growth in China and India, the company’s chairman told a conference in Malaysia on Wednesday.

“Internationally, we’re focusing on larger markets,” S Robson Walton told a Forbes Global CEO Conference in Kuala Lumpur, reported the Economic Times.

“China is a big opportunity for us. We’re just getting started in India, where we see great opportunity over the long term.”

About a quarter of Walmart’s sales came from its international division, according to figures released last month, which includes 630 stores in China, India and Japan.

Chinese retail sales grew 15.4 per cent in August, year-on-year.
