Tesco

UK retail giant Tesco is planning to more than double its fresh produce imports from Thailand this year for sale across its global network.

Johnathan Sutton – Tesco category technical manager for fresh produce, Thailand and Malaysia – told Fruitnet that plans were in place to import Bt1.5bn-worth of fruits and vegetables during 2008/09. In 2007, Tesco UK imported around Bt575m-worth of fresh produce from Thailand, equating to some 1,300 tonnes. Mr Sutton added that 2008 would also be a ground-breaking year for Tesco's Malaysian fresh produce imports.
