Jubilee strawberries

The season’s first crop of Jubilee strawberries was this week hand-delivered to Marks & Spencer’s Canterbury store by Berry Gardens chairman Paul Kelsey.

The delivery came two weeks ahead of expectations due to the unusually high temperatures experienced in the UK.

“We are delighted to be starting the season two weeks earlier than expected, enabling retailers to stock up on the delicious fruit and maximise this incremental sales opportunity,” said Kelsey. “Consumers have come to expect a very high standard from Jubilee when it comes to quality and flavour, and we are confident that we can exceed their expectations this year, further promoting sales within supermarkets.”

This season, expected to run from June to September, will see an estimated 2,400 tonnes of Jubilee strawberries produced nationwide.

John Torode, who appears as a judge on TV show Masterchef, has joined forces with Jubilee strawberries to develop the ‘Savour the Flavour Strawberry Guide’, which is available for consumers to download at www.jubileestrawberries.co.uk.

In addition to proactively encouraging consumers to choose local produce, Torode has equally revealed his top tips on the way to reap the best flavour from Jubilee strawberries throughout the season.
