Cornish Golden Courgette yellow Sainsburys

UK retailer Sainsbury's has announced the launch of a yellow courgette, which it says will make a 'colourful addition' to consumers' plates and barbecues this summer.
Grown in Cornwall, in the south-west of England, the so-called Cornish Golden Courgette will be on sale in 39 of the company's stores until October priced at £1.74 (€1.99) for a bag of three.

'At first glance the Cornish Golden Courgette could easily be mistaken for a banana or sweetcorn due to its bright yellow skin,' the retailer claimed, 'but the sun-coloured vegetable in fact tastes similar to the traditional green courgette with additional nutty and sweet flavours.'

Naturally grown and free from added colours, the variety originated in France before being developed in Cornwall.

Julien Roberts, produce buyer at Sainsbury's commented: 'Not only is the Cornish Golden Courgette a colourful addition to the plate, it tastes great which is first and foremost for all products we sell.'

He added: 'We anticipate it being popular with all our customers, whether they're keen on fresh British produce, wanting to encourage their kids to eat more 'greens' or simply looking for something more unusual.'
