Spain saw growth in its fresh fruit and vegetable imports through the month of May, with volumes up 20 per cent on the same month of 2014 to hit 226,717 tonnes.
According to Department of Customs and Excise data processed by Fepex, import value also grew, up 27 per cent year-on-year to €177m.
Potatoes were a key component in this growth, with volumes up 33 per cent to 62,556 tonnes. Total vegetable imports grew 31 per cent to 96,642 tonnes.
May's fruit imports jumped 13 per cent to 130,075 tonnes.
For the January-May period, imports stood at 1.1m tonnes, 5 per cent higher than the same period of 2014, with a toal value of €809.5 - up 11.5 per cent.
