Danper will be the first Peruvian company to carry the new Superfoods from Peru brand on its products. The initiative from PromPerú brings together the best of the country’s healthy food offering.

“Being the first licensees of the Superfoods brands fills us with pride and is at the same time a huge responsibility as we will become the first medium through which the quality, variety and benefits of Peruvian food will be channelled,” said Jorge Arangurí, Danper’s founder and executive director.

“Our extensive experience and presence in the global market will allow us, as ambassadors of the Superfoods brand, to propel the recognition of Peru as a supplier of a great diversity of highly nutritious foods.”

Danper’s offer comprises several superfoods in a variety of fresh, processed and ready-to-eat formats, including blueberries, asparagus, avocados, table grapes, pomegranates, mangoes and quinoa.

Its prepared offering includes the Premium Casa Verde Gourmet range of canned vegetables and quinoa and the Quinua Lunch duo packs of cooked quinoa with a range of sauces, which can be eaten cold or heated in the microwave.

Arangurí said Peruvian companies should maximise the competitive advantage afforded by the country’s varied climates and geographical location through the application of technology and professionalism to exploit the growing trend towards superfoods and seal the country’s position as the superfoods “pantry” for the world.

The Superfoods from Peru brand comes in response to the growing global trend for wellbeing and nutrition and is expected to play a key role in the government’s goal of doubling fresh produce exports by 2021.

Launched at this year’s Fruit Logistica, the label is a collaboration between private industry, industry associations, PromPerú and other public institutions including the Ministry of Agriculture, Mincetur and the Health Ministry.

Peru’s food industry has undergone a huge transformation in recent years which has seen exports increase from US$1.3bn in 2005 to US$5.1bn in 2015, an average annual growth of 15 per cent.

“We are one of the most bio-diverse countries on the planet and home to 80 of the 117 different habitats. This has enabled us to develop a huge variety of agricultural products – many of them native to Peru – which today are sold all over the world,” said Isabella Falco of PromPerú.

“Peru is also a world leader in gastronomy and its products comply with the standards and certifications the market demands.”
