California-based Pandol Bros has announced the completion of major expansion work on its cold storage and packing facility, which has now doubled in size to hit 1,858m2.

The group, which is a market leader in the fresh produce industry with a wide range of capabilities including the packing and shipping of table grapes, blueberries, persimmons and other fruit and vegetable varieties, said that expansion was driven by a growing demand from buyers for more clamshell and customised packs.

'Pandol's significant expansion and improvement of our facility was driven by the growing demand from buyers for more clamshell and customised packs,' said Anthony Stetson, vice-president of sales at Pandol Bros. 'We are thrilled to have this major expansion completed just in time for the California grape-growing season.'

According to Pandol, the facility will employ over 100 people at its peak, with the largest packing room staying at a constant temperature to maintain the cold chain and enhance produce shelf-life.

'It's exciting because now our expanded facility features five separate packing lines with 12 to 36 packers per line,' said Dave Bryan, Pandol's post-harvest operations manager. 'The expansion offers more flexibility and will also meet the growing demand for custom packing including custom labelling.'
