Capespan Ltd has announced it is putting more and more effort into reducing its impact on the environment, saying it recognises the importance of using energy more efficiently and promoting a responsible approach to resource management.

The company also plans to comprehensively measure resource utilisation within its UK operations this year. It then plans to use the data in making further improvements.

“With the recent hikesin energy prices, it has now become a business imperative,” says managing director Ronan Lennon.“Raising awareness and encouraging staff to think ‘environment andenergy’ will form a key component of our development.”

In addition to reducing road transfers by using more barge services to link its port operations in the UK, Capespan is also taking positive steps to reduce packaging and improve waste management, Mr Lennon adds.

A full report on Capespan's environmental initiatives will appear in the July 2008 issue of Eurofruit Magazine
