Newly appointed Onions New Zealand independent chairman Michael Ahern will bring more than 30 years' experience in the horticulture industry to the role.
Mr Ahern started out in the kiwifruit industry in the 1970s and has since gone on to hold key roles in the horticultural sector, reported the website Voxy.co.nz.
In the 1990s Mr Ahern established his own exporting business, Greenz Growlink, which in 2001 was incorporated into the Freshmax Group. Mr Ahern was general manager of Freshmax Exports until 2008.
He has most recently been involved as a consultant with producer and exporter the JM Bostock Group, the website reported.
